On March 1st, 2020, The Year’s Premier Chefs’ Event Returned to Shine a Spotlight on Homelessness
Presented by Disneyland® Resort and now in its 7th year, The OC Chef’s Table is the year’s most anticipated event for two reasons:
1. The most lauded chefs of Orange and L.A. Counties are all together in one room, pulling out all the stops to create the most memorable, magical dining experience for their guests.
2. These chefs return again and again for Illumination Foundation’s OC Chef’s Table because they want to be part of IF’s movement that’s making such a positive impact in disrupting the cycle of homelessness.
The non-profit organization, Illumination Foundation was founded in 2007 with the sole mission to Disrupt the Cycle of Homelessness.
“The Social Crisis of Our Generation”
Today in Orange County there are more than 32,000 children homeless or unstably housed and in excess of 55,000 homeless individuals in Southern California alone.
Illumination Foundation was originally born from the shock and frustration two MBA classmates – Paul Leon and Paul Cho – encountered when discovering how many children in affluent Orange County were homeless every night on the streets.
Life on the street is about survival. Nearly all homeless people suffer multiple instances of trauma and struggle with mental and physical health ailments that aren’t treated, and children suffer as much or more as the adults. The cycle of homelessness will not be broken without intervention.
Shining a Spotlight & Taking Fast Action
Since 2007, Illumination Foundation has poured all of its energy into creating innovative corporate sponsorships and county and hospital joint ventures to propel massive action.
The greatest chefs of Orange County first came together in 2008 for the inaugural OC Chef’s Table. They’ve been expanding in ranks and returning again and again, giving generously of their time and culinary talents toward a specific need in the homeless community that Illumination Foundation immediately acts on.
In 2019, 39 chefs from Orange and L.A. counties supported Illumination Foundation’s endeavor to raise funds for emergency housing for families with children. The 2019 OC Chef’s Table raised more than $1 million to add another emergency house to serve this vulnerable population. The Bob Murphy House in Anaheim was purchased renovated and opened to many families in a matter of months after the 2019 Gala.
Fast forward to March 1, 2020 when 44 top-ranked OC chefs supported fundraising for a third emergency house that will further Illumination Foundation’s ability to serve many more homeless and vulnerable clients. Currently, Illumination Foundation has a waiting list of at least 100 families either living unstably in cars, motels, friends’ homes or are homeless on the streets without shelter.
Join Us. Together, we can disrupt the cycle of homelessness.
It’s a travesty that so many Orange County families and children are without a safe place to call home. With this event, we invite you to help us change this.
– Paul Leon, Founder & CEO, Illumination Foundation
